Yes. UnitedMasters' DEBUT tier is completely free with no upfront cost. You can distribute unlimited releases to 50+ DSPs including Spotify and Apple Music, access brand deal opportunities, and receive basic analytics. The trade-off is a 90/10 royalty split, meaning UnitedMasters keeps 10% of your streaming income. The DEBUT+ plan at $19.99/year gives you 100% royalties.
Both platforms offer 100% royalties on their paid tiers at similar annual prices (UnitedMasters at $19.99/year vs. DistroKid at $22.99/year). The key difference is UnitedMasters offers brand deal and sync licensing access while DistroKid does not. DistroKid distributes to more stores and has a longer track record. Choose UnitedMasters if brand partnerships matter to you; choose DistroKid if maximum distribution reach is the priority.
UnitedMasters has partnerships with major brands including the NBA, Nike, ESPN, and Diageo. Artists on the platform can be selected for licensing placements in ads, sports broadcasts, and branded content. Selection is based on music style, genre fit, and audience profile. These deals are not guaranteed and require the brand to specifically request your style of music, but when they happen, they can be significantly more lucrative than streaming income alone.
Yes, but it is not included in the base plans. YouTube Content ID is available as a $4.99 add-on per release, and artists keep 80% of YouTube royalties from those claims. This is less generous than some competitors who include Content ID in their annual plan and offer higher royalty splits.
Yes. UnitedMasters allows artists to transfer their music to another distributor without taking their catalog down, as long as you handle the transition properly. Artists own their masters on both the DEBUT and DEBUT+ plans. UnitedMasters does not own your music or lock you into exclusivity.
